Transparency disclaimer: I run Top Care Cleaning and built Hosted Reviews. Read this knowing I'm biased toward my own product. I will tell you exactly when a competitor is the better fit.
By Alex Host, founder of Hosted Reviews and operator of Top Care Cleaning
Podium's website shows $399/month. Here's what a 15-person service business would actually pay at the end of month one — and why the headline number is never the full story. Before comparing any review tools, make sure you have your review link ready: the free Google review link generator takes 30 seconds and requires no signup.
The three published plans
As of May 2026, per Podium's pricing page:
| Plan | Price | SMS credits | Key features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core | $399/month | 250 credits/month | SMS inbox, review requests, website chat, payments |
| Pro | $599/month | 500 credits/month | Adds text marketing, AI features, surveys |
| Signature | Custom | Custom | Enterprise features, sales call required |
The hidden fees — the real monthly bill
10DLC registration fee
Every US business sending A2P (application-to-person) SMS is required to register through the 10DLC (10-digit long code) system. Podium handles registration, but the $5/month per US location fee is charged separately from the plan price. It is mandatory on all plans and listed explicitly on Podium's pricing page.
This isn't Podium gouging you — 10DLC is an industry-wide carrier requirement. But it's an add-on that doesn't appear in the headline plan number.
Text credit buckets
Bulk SMS messages at Podium are credit-based: 250 credits/month on Core, 500 credits/month on Pro. Credits do not roll over month to month. When you exhaust them, sends stop — not an overage charge, just a hard stop on bulk sends until the billing cycle resets.
For a business doing 30 jobs per week and sending one review request per job: that's approximately 120–130 SMS per month. On Core, you'll exhaust your 250 credits in roughly 8–10 days of review requests alone, before any other bulk sends. One-to-one text messages (customer conversations, replies) are unlimited on all plans — the credit cap applies specifically to bulk/automation sends.
High-Volume Carrier-Verified Messaging
On Core ($399/month), this is a $15/month add-on. On Pro ($599/month), it's included. This feature improves delivery reliability at volume — carrier filtering is real, and without it, bulk review request SMS can land in spam or get blocked entirely on certain carriers.
If you're sending more than 50–75 bulk texts per month and want reliable delivery, this add-on on Core is effectively mandatory. It doesn't change the credit cap; it improves how reliably the credits that are sent actually reach customers.
Additional phone numbers
5 numbers included on Core; 15 on Pro. Additional numbers are $5/month each. For most single-location operations, the included allotment is sufficient. Multi-location businesses or businesses that want per-tech dedicated numbers will hit this.
Phones add-on
If you want Podium's AI phone feature — call transcripts, AI summaries, missed-call auto-text — that's an additional $30/user/month for 1–4 users, plus a $500 network optimization fee per location. For a cleaning company with 3 people who regularly answer the business line, that's $90/month + $500 one-time fee.
AI feature overages
Pro includes AI features at a monthly cap. Beyond that cap, usage-rate overages apply. The exact per-unit cost is not published. If AI call summaries or AI review responses are a heavy daily use case, budget for overages.
What a 15-person cleaning company actually pays
Here's the full-cost build for a single-location business on Core, not using the Phones add-on:
| Line item | Monthly cost |
|---|---|
| Core plan | $399 |
| 10DLC fee (1 location) | $5 |
| High-Volume Carrier-Verified Messaging | $15 |
| Total — Core, single location | $419/month |
Add one user on the Phones add-on: $449/month ($5,388/year). Add the $500 network optimization fee in month 1: $949 in the first month.
For comparison, Top Care runs Hosted Reviews at $29/month — $348/year. The core use case I needed was SMS review requests with a funnel screen. Hosted Reviews does that. Podium at $419+/month does that plus ten other things I don't need.
That's not an argument that Podium is a bad product. It's an argument that Podium is a product designed for businesses with a broader communication stack need — and if review collection is your primary use case, you're paying for a lot of overhead.
What you get for $399–$599/month
To be fair to Podium, here's the actual feature set at the Core and Pro tiers:
Core ($399/month):
- Two-way SMS inbox — all customer conversations in one place (Facebook, Google, Instagram, website chat, SMS unified)
- Review request automation — sends to Google, Facebook, industry review sites
- Website chat widget
- Payment collection via text link
- 200+ integrations
- Mobile app
Pro ($599/month) adds:
- Text marketing with images and GIFs (bulk campaigns)
- AI features — review response drafts, phone summaries, concierge
- Hosted surveys
- 500 SMS credits (vs. 250 on Core)
- High-Volume Carrier-Verified Messaging included
Honest note from an operator who looked at this: if you use the two-way inbox every day, collect payments via text, run text marketing campaigns, and want AI call summaries — Podium might be worth the $400–$600/month. It's a complete platform for businesses where SMS is the center of every customer interaction, not just the review request.
If review requests via SMS are the only thing you need from this list, you're paying for the other nine features to get to the one.
Podium G2/Capterra — what users say about pricing
G2: 4.6/5, 2,095 reviews — Capterra: 4.3/5, 522 reviews — as of May 2026.
User sentiment on pricing follows a clear pattern:
- "Pricing feels heavy for smaller teams — especially with contract commitments." Multiple Capterra reviewers
- "High and inflexible pricing; hard to cancel." Capterra review summary
- "Frequent software glitches and message delays." Present in approximately 74% of negative Capterra reviews
- Positive pricing sentiment exists among larger businesses — "completely worth it for what we do with it" — but these tend to be multi-location or high-volume operations where the full platform is in use
The Capterra average of 4.3/5 is notably lower than G2's 4.6/5. Capterra reviewers skew toward the smaller end of Podium's customer base — businesses that are less likely to use the full platform — which likely explains the gap.
Who Podium pricing makes sense for
Podium's pricing is structured for businesses with:
- Consistent monthly revenue in the mid-five figures ($50,000+/month) — at that scale, $400–$600/month is under 1% of revenue
- A genuine need for the full communications stack, not just review requests — inbox, payments, AI phone, text marketing all in active daily use
- 5+ users who will use the SMS inbox and payment features regularly, not just the person who sends review requests
- An integration need that Podium's 200+ native integrations address and that no cheaper tool handles
Cheaper alternatives worth knowing about
If Podium's price doesn't clear your ROI threshold for the specific features you'll use, here's the short list:
| Tool | Price | SMS native? | Funnel screen? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hosted Reviews | $29/$49/month | Yes | Yes |
| NiceJob | $75/$125/month | Trigger + email | No |
| Whitespark Reputation Builder | $79/location/month | Yes (300 credits cap) | Yes |
| Grade.us | $110/month (Solo) | Add-on | Yes |
Frequently asked questions
Does Podium offer a free trial?
No free trial is publicly available per Podium's website and Capterra's Podium profile as of May 2026. Podium offers a sales demo, but the full platform requires purchase to access. This is a meaningful distinction if you want to test the product before committing — Hosted Reviews, NiceJob, and Grade.us all offer free trials.
Is Podium pricing monthly or annual?
Podium does not publicly advertise an annual vs. monthly distinction or an annual discount, per their published pricing page as of May 2026. Contracts are not disclosed publicly. Some users report multi-year agreements; the specifics are part of the sales conversation.
Can I get just the review request feature without the full Podium platform?
No. Podium's pricing doesn't offer a review-request-only tier. Core at $399/month is the entry point and includes the full platform. If you want SMS review requests as a standalone feature at a lower price, the alternatives in the table above are the options.
What happens when I run out of Podium text credits?
Bulk sends stop until your billing cycle resets. Podium does not charge per-message overages — it simply blocks further bulk sends. One-to-one conversations remain unlimited. If you hit the cap mid-month, you can either upgrade to Pro (500 credits) or wait for the reset.
How does Podium pricing compare to Birdeye?
Podium is $399–$599/month (published). Birdeye's prices are not published — based on third-party research from Wiser Review and Reviewflowz (as of May 2026), Birdeye Starter runs approximately $299/location/month on annual pre-pay. For a single-location business, Birdeye may be cheaper than Podium's Pro tier — but on annual pre-pay, with days-to-weeks onboarding, and aimed at a different use case (multi-location, AI-heavy).
