I run Top Care Cleaning and built Hosted Reviews. Read this knowing I'm biased toward my own product. I will tell you exactly when a competitor is the better fit.
Whitespark is a trusted name in local SEO. Their Reputation Builder has a genuinely well-designed funnel. Here is where it makes sense — and where the $79/location/month price tag and 300 SMS credit cap change the math for a busy service operator.
Who Whitespark is built for
This comparison is part of the broader review management software buyer's guide covering all six tools in the local service operator market. Whitespark's reputation comes primarily from their local SEO tools — Citation Finder, Local Rank Tracker, Google Business Profile Audit. The Reputation Builder is a standalone review collection and monitoring product that sits alongside those tools. It is aimed at the same buyer: local SEO practitioners, marketing agencies, and consultants managing multiple SMB client accounts.
Their primary audience reads the Whitespark blog, follows local SEO thought leaders like Darren Shaw, and evaluates tools through the lens of local search impact. A single-location cleaning company owner managing their own reviews is an edge case buyer for Whitespark, not the center of the ICP.

That said — the tool works for operators. The funnel is well-designed. The question is whether the pricing and SMS architecture fit a busy service business's volume.
Whitespark Reputation Builder pricing
PRO plan: $79/location/month. Includes 3,000 email requests per month (100/day cap), 300 SMS text message credits per month, and review monitoring across 10 sites. No annual discount is documented publicly. No free plan is available. A 14-day free trial is offered for up to 10 locations. (Whitespark Reputation Builder)
Multi-Location / Agency plan: Custom pricing, contact sales. Covers 2 to 1,000+ locations.
What you do not get in the base plan: native field-service CRM integrations (no direct Jobber or HCP connection), white-label client dashboards, or an overage option on SMS. Once you use your 300 monthly SMS credits, sending stops for the rest of the billing period.
The 300 SMS credit cap is the key constraint. At 30 jobs per week, a pressure washing or cleaning company sends approximately 120 review request texts per month. That exhausts the Whitespark credit pool in the first week of the month. The remaining three weeks generate completed jobs — but no review requests, because the sends have stopped. A third-party pricing analysis from Content Distribution's Whitespark review (as of May 2026) notes that "$79/month per location is unreasonably priced for what it does" relative to the SMS cap limitation. Verify current pricing directly with Whitespark before evaluating, as pricing in this category shifts quarterly.
Whitespark's genuine strength — the Ultimate request mode
The Reputation Builder offers three distinct request modes. This is where Whitespark stands out.
Direct mode: One step. Customer receives a link and goes straight to a public review site. No intercept.
Simple mode: Streamlined. A short request that reduces the steps to a public review, with light customization.
Ultimate mode: The full funnel. The customer flow is: NPS score → optional survey questions → first-party testimonial (private) → third-party public review site. Low-scoring customers are intercepted by the private testimonial/feedback step and connected directly with the business. High-scoring customers move through to Google or Facebook.
The Ultimate mode is one of the most mature funnel implementations in this category. The negative-feedback intercept is explicitly designed — not bolted on. Multiple Whitespark reviewers and third-party analyses call this out as the tool's primary differentiator. The funnel design quality is comparable to Hosted Reviews'. Both tools genuinely intercept unhappy customers before they reach a public review site.
The practical difference between Whitespark's Ultimate mode and Hosted Reviews' screening: Whitespark routes customers through a landing page. Hosted Reviews keeps the screening inside the SMS conversation thread. For operators whose customers are primarily responding on mobile, fewer page loads generally mean higher completion rates — but both approaches accomplish the core task.
Where the 300 SMS cap becomes a problem
Let me run the math for a realistic service operation.
Light volume scenario: A solo operator running two jobs per day, five days a week. That is roughly 40 jobs per month. Assuming they send one review request per job: 40 SMS sends. Well inside the 300-credit cap. Whitespark works without constraint here.
Medium volume scenario: A five-tech cleaning company running three jobs per tech per day. That is 75 jobs per week, 300 per month. You exhaust the 300-credit cap on approximately the last day of the month. Cutting it very close — and that assumes consistent daily distribution.
High volume scenario: A 10-truck pressure washing company in peak season (May–August) running five jobs per truck per day. 50 jobs per day, 1,000+ per month. The 300-credit cap is gone in the first week. The remaining three weeks of the month — the bulk of peak-season revenue — generate zero review requests via SMS.
Top Care's 70-SMS test cohort gives a real data point: from 70 sends, we received 15 Google reviews (21% conversion). Monthly scale for a 10-tech operation could easily exceed 300 sends. Once the credits run out, the tool stops working for the month regardless of the billing cycle remaining. There is no published overage rate — the sends simply stop. Hosted Reviews — the direct comparison
Pricing: $29/month (Starter) or $49/month (Pro). No per-location fee for single-location businesses.
SMS: No monthly credit cap. Sends run on Twilio toll-free infrastructure. A high-volume operation sending 500 review requests per month pays the same $29/month as one sending 40.
Funnel screening: Yes — inline with the SMS conversation thread. Low-score customers are intercepted before they reach the Google review link. The screen happens inside the message thread, not on a separate landing page.
Setup time: 10 minutes. No campaign configuration, no CSV upload required for contacts, no separate account setup for the funnel landing page.
Built by Top Care Cleaning. The tool was designed by a service operator managing their own reviews, not by an agency building tools for their SMB clients. The UX reflects that distinction — there is no multi-client dashboard, no white-label option, and no pitch deck generator. It does one thing: help a single-location service business collect more Google reviews via SMS, with a funnel screen between the request and the public post.
From our 70-SMS test cohort: 40% tap-yes on the initial SMS, 54% of yes-taps convert to posted reviews, median time-to-review 2.5 hours, 71% of reviews finished within 24 hours.

When to choose Whitespark over Hosted Reviews
There are four scenarios where Whitespark is the better call:
You are an agency managing 10 or more SMB clients under a white-label brand. The multi-location agency plan, white-label capability, and first-party testimonial capture alongside third-party review generation are features Hosted Reviews does not have. Grade.us is also a strong option here — see Grade.us vs NiceJob vs Hosted Reviews for that comparison.
You want first-party testimonial capture as a separate workflow. Whitespark's Ultimate mode captures a private testimonial before sending the customer to a public review site. If building a testimonial library matters to you independently of Google review volume, that is a genuine feature advantage.
You already use Whitespark's Citation Finder or Local Rank Tracker. Bundling the Reputation Builder into an existing Whitespark workflow reduces tool switching. The integrations are a la carte (each tool is priced separately), but the dashboard familiarity has value.
Your monthly send volume is under 200 SMS per month. At light volume, the 300-credit cap is not a constraint. If you run a solo operation with 50–100 jobs per month, the cap is irrelevant and Whitespark's funnel quality is fully available to you.
Frequently asked questions
Does Whitespark Reputation Builder work without Whitespark's other tools? Yes. The Reputation Builder is sold as a standalone product. You do not need Citation Finder or Local Rank Tracker to use it. It is a separate subscription at $79/location/month.
What happens when I run out of Whitespark SMS credits? SMS sends stop for the remainder of the billing period. There is no published overage rate — the credits simply run out and no additional texts go out until the next billing cycle resets the count. (BrightLocal Tool Comparison)
Is Whitespark good for a single-location cleaning company? For light volume (under 150 jobs per month), yes — the funnel design is strong and the credit cap is workable. For medium to high volume (150+ jobs per month), the 300 SMS cap becomes a constraint that eliminates most of the tool's value during peak periods.
Does Whitespark have better funnel screening than Hosted Reviews? Not better, but comparable. Both tools intercept low-rating customers before they reach a public review site. Whitespark's Ultimate mode routes customers through a landing page. Hosted Reviews keeps the screen inside the SMS thread. The Ultimate mode adds a first-party testimonial step that Hosted Reviews does not have. Feature parity on the core intercept function; different UX execution.
What is the Whitespark Ultimate request mode? Ultimate mode is the full funnel: NPS score → optional survey questions → first-party private testimonial → third-party public review site. Low-scoring customers are redirected after the NPS step to a private feedback channel and connected directly with the business. High-scoring customers continue through to Google, Facebook, or another public review site.

I built Hosted Reviews. That is a conflict of interest I am flagging directly.
If you are an agency managing 10+ SMB clients, or you need first-party testimonial capture alongside public review generation, Whitespark may be the better fit — especially if you already use their local SEO tools.
If you are a single-location service operator, you run more than 200 jobs per month, and you need SMS review requests to keep firing through the full month without a credit cap — try Hosted Reviews free for 14 days. No card required. SMS works from day one.
